The Animals

We have a small selection of farm and pet animals. Some will greet you, some are wild!

Large Black Pigs
At the moment we have one large black pig, Sally. She is a Rare Breed pig.

Sally is getting too old to have more piglets so is just enjoying life but hopefully we will be getting some more soon.

Manx Loaghtan Sheep

We have a flock of Manx Loaghtan which are short tailed primative sheep that would have been found in these parts for hundreds of years. This breed comes from The Isle of Man - Loaghtan means brown in Manx. They were however often interbred with similar breeds in the North of Engand and Southern Scotland.

They are smaller than normal sheep with a lovely toffee coloured fleece. They also can have up to six large horns.

The sheep are hard to contain as they can jump most of our walls so they do turn up in unexpected places! (Usually eating my plants).

The Belted Galloways

The cows are on our fell which is 100 acres so you can walk on there and manage to avoid them, they can be a bit wild especially with calves.
They don't actually belong to us any more so we get the nice view of them without the hard work!

The Hens

We have a cockerel, Fred and some hens. They are not Rare Breed but do lay delicious eggs. They wander at will and so the eggs are very definitely free range.
