Scotchcoulthard

There are many attractions in Northumberland and Cumbria. It is possible to be in Newcastle or Carlisle within an hour. Ullswater is our nearest lake and Blencathra can be climbed and back home in a day!

Scotchcoulthard is situated four miles north of Hadrian's Wall in The Northumberland National Park near to the Roman Forts of Housesteads and Vindolanda with the other museums not too far away.

Scotchcoulthard is situated in The Northumberland National Park at the edge of Wark Forest which stretches into Kielder Forest. It is possible to drive through the forest to Kielder Water but 4x4s are advised!

The beaches in Northumberland are worth visiting as are the many castles.

For the city life The Quayside has many restaurants and a fantastic view of the bridges. The Baltic often has very interesting art work on show.

There are many golf courses around with Haltwhistle Golf Club at Greenhead only 20 minutes away.

There is pony trekking at Sinderhope near Allendale. If you wanted to bring a horse that is fine as long it is happy to stay out in one of our fields.

Matfen Hall along The Military Road has a Go-Ape for the more adventurous.

A new venture has started locally called Wild Dogs Outdoors. They organise guided walks with an expert in local history and archeology. One of the walks is run from Cawfields which is on Hadrian's Wall a short distance from us. For more information please click here.

The nearest town of Haltwhistle (named Centre of Britain) is seven miles away. It has a couple of supermarkets and local shops for most essentials. It has its own unique history including a 13th century church with stained glass windows made by William Morris & Co. in 1872. The windows were the work of Edward Burne-Jones, Ford Maddox Brown and Philip Webb who were Pre-Raphelite artists.

There are many walks in and around Haltwhistle with two walking festivals a year.

A burn running through Haltwhistle has a spectacular walk through beautiful scenery.

There is a Swimming and Leisure Centre with outdoor pool open from Easter until September.

Haltwhistle is on the main Carlisle to Newcastle line and has a train station with trains every hour. Thre is a  bus service including the Hadrian's Wall bus that runs along The Military Road (April to October).

Waitrose, Sainsburys, Asda and Tesco will deliver here! If you want to order a shop it can be delivered and put into your cottage ready for your arrival.
